Old and contaminated gearbox oil can cause increased wear on bearings and synchros, as well as performance issues such as difficulty engaging gears and noise from the gearbox.
Gearbox oil plays an important role keeping all the gears, synchros and bearings in the gearbox spinning freely and reducing wear on the components.
Generally, the gearbox oil should be replaced every 40-50,000 miles, but if the car is driven hard, there will be a big improvement in changing earlier (at 20-25,000 miles)
