It detects detonation or pinging and signals the ecu to reduce engine timing to preserve the engine.

I ordered a genuine knock sensor from Jap service parts for my 2002 Honda CRV Mk II 2.0 petrol as the aftermarket one I fitted, bought from ebay, supposedly “made in japan” when fitted made the engine pink or ping under load. This genuine one is identical as the factory fitted one and works perfectly. Only fit genuine OE Honda knock sensors and you wont have any problems. Many thanks to Jap service parts.
