The lost motion assembly prevents the cam rocker from rattling when vtec is not engaged.
These are the new spring loaded design and replace the old hydraulic versions which had a tendency to stick.
Worn Lost Motion Assemblies will normally cause a valvetrain rattle.
Failure to replace worn LMA’s can cause excessive valvetrain wear and damage
