THE PRODUCT : THERMOSTAT 

The thermostat regulates coolant temperature by opening and closing at a pre-set temperature to control coolant flow. 

Faulty thermostats stop opening and closing, and remain stuck either in the open or closed position. 

When stuck in the open position, the engine is cooled too much and does not get up to normal operating temperature. 

This causes loss of performance and reduced fuel economy. 

Typically when stuck in the open position, the temperature gauge rises when in traffic, and falls rapidly when driving on open roads. 

When stuck in the closed position, the engine can overheat. Typically the temperature gauge reads much higher than normal.
